JANIS A. (KRAH) WILLIAMS Passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2019, in Country Meadows, South Hills, of Bethel Park, formerly of Baldwin / Whitehall. Jan was born April 19, 1940. She was the daughter of James and Dolores Krah. Jan married her high school sweetheart, Thomas "Griff" Williams. Together they had two daughters, Sherri (Mark) Boehm and Suzanne (the late David) Berman. Jan is survived by her husband, Griff; two daughters; a brother, Jim Winfield; grandson, Matthew; five great-grandchildren; and fur-baby, Allie. Jan graduated from Baldwin High School. She was captain of the Heatheretts in her senior year. Janis was with Gulf Oil, then US Steel until Sherri was born. She was a stay-at-home Mom until the girls started school. She then became a lunchtime aide at Bethel Middle School, then a teacher's aide at St. Clair High School. Janis worked for Bloom Engineering Company and R.L. Miller Company until her retirement. Jan enjoyed spending time camping at Holiday Campgrounds and fishing on Pymatuning Lake. She also enjoyed golfing and bowling. Mary Ann began her work career in the mail room of Westinghouse, East Pittsburgh plant. She later became the secretary of the manager of the Mellon Bank branch in Turtle Creek from where she retired. Mary Ann was gifted with artistic talent and she enjoyed sewing, quilting and scrapbooking and also delighted in oil painting of outdoor scenes. She also was an accomplished pianist from 1947-1953 as she played solo and duet concerts at Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland. EUGENE A. SOLOMON "GENE" Eugene A. Gene Solomon, 79, of Greensburg, died Sunday, November 3, 2019 at New Haven Court at Lindwood, Hempfield Township. He was born September 11, 1940 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late John E. Jack Sr. and Margaret M. (Murtha) Solomon. He and his wife attended Resurrection Elementary in Brookline then St. Justin High School in Mount Washington. He received his B.A. from Duquesne University and was a veteran of the US Army. Gene worked for Guttman Oil of Belle Vernon then retired 2015 from Windward Petroleum of Youngwood. He attended Our Lady of Grace and St. Florian Catholic Church, was a member of Playboys Fraternity at Duquesne University, Pennsylvania Petroleum Assn., Shell Oil National Oil Jobbers Assn., Certified Lubricants Special National Society Tribologic Engineers, Ruffed Grouse Society, Ducks Unlimited and Hannastown Golf Club. Gene was also an avid Steelers and Penguins fan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, John Solomon. He is survived by his wife, Therese J. (Bonasso) Solomon, four children, Susan M. Pantalone of Latrobe, Paul A. SAMUEL A. MERRIMAN A genuine gentleman, Samuel A. Merriman died peacefully in hospice care on Friday, November 1, 2019 surrounded by his daughter and friends. He was a vociferous reader, excellent cook, avid golfer and bowler, lover of sports, music and his dogs, and a dedicated servant to his church. Utilizing knowledge, wisdom, humility and a great sense of humor, he committed his life to helping others. During the Korean War he served as an Army Sergeant, in his career as a Case Manager in Social Work in Pennsylvania, at church as a reader and President of the Men's Club and always with friends, family and strangers. Sam was a devoted husband to his deceased wife of 49 years, Carole, father of Nancy Merriman Haines, uncle of Fran, Renee, Terryjohn, and Brian Benko and Mark Metzler, and grand-uncle of Frankie Benko and Eric Metzler. He was also the beloved brother-in-law of Richard and Melba Bodnar and Bill and Jo Bodnar. He is dearly loved and will be missed. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City West, Arizona on Friday, November 15th at 10:00 am followed by a Military Honor.
