KERSCHNER ROY F. ROY FRANKLIN ...

KERSCHNER ROY F. Roy Franklin Kerschner, age 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 2, 2017, in Redstone Highland, Murrysville, PA. Born on May 26, 1925, in Pine Grove Twp., he was the son of the late Raymond and Sallie Aungst Kerschner of Pine Grove. He married Alda May Emerich in Pine Grove on Christmas Eve, 1953. Roy graduated from Pine Grove High School in 1943 and entered the United States Navy V-12 program at Muhlenberg College in Allentown. He received his Ensign's Commission at Cornell University, and served in the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, HI at the end of WWII. He continued in the United States Naval Reserve until his honorable discharge in 1958 at the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. Roy graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1948 with a BA in Business and Economics. He worked as an accountant for ALCOA, Inc., in Pittsburgh for almost 42 years and was a member of the ALCOA Pittsburgh Retirees Club. Roy and Alda lived in Gibsonia, PA from 1954 until recently moving to Redstone Highlands in Murrysville, PA. He served on the Board of School Directors of the Pine Richland School District for 17 years. He was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibsonia since 1954. Roy loved spending time with his family, collecting antiques, antique cars, gardening and genealogy. He was also a member of American Legion Post 374, Pine Grove, Franklin Antique Car Club, Antique Automobile Club of America, AARP. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Carl, Dale and Gene Kerschner. Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Alda; a son, David and wife, Beth Kerschner of Murrysville; a daughter, Barbara Kerschner of Cocoa, FL; four grandchildren, Amy and husband, Alex Smith, Andrew Kerschner, Daniel Kerschner, Laura Kerschner, all of Murrysville; a great- granddaughter, Joanna Smith of Murrysville; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2832 Gibsonia Rd., Gibsonia, PA with Pastor Anthony Schneck, officiating. The family would like to thank the staff of Redstone for the care during Roy's recent illness.
