DOLORES W. CESSAR BORN IN 1928...
DOLORES W. CESSAR Born in 1928, in Etna, PA. She was the daughter of Dr. Alvin and Pearl Whitehill. She was the beloved wife to Rick Cessar for 70 years. She was the loving mother to Deacon Rick (Sandy), Chris Murray (Tom), Candace Skiles (Greg), Robert (Linda) and Scott (Joyce). She was grandmother to Lauryn (husband Stephen), Katie, Bobby and Claire (fiancé Bob), step-grandmother to Kristine and Sandra, and great-grandmother to Mila and Kristof. During the last five years of her life, she was greatly loved and taken care of by Riquetta (Ricki) Brown and the wonderful staff at Sunrise Assisted Living in McCandless. Dolores was a professional dancer in her youth and a majorette in high school. She instilled a strong work ethic in her children, always teaching them to love and support one another. She was generous and caring, as demonstrated by her community involvement. She served as president of the Etna PTA, member of the All Saints Parish Council where she started several fundraisers, including an international food fair, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Northern Area Multi-Service Center located in Sharpsburg. She worked side-by-side with her husband in his role as state representative for 24 years, helping constituents who called or stopped by the house and also campaigned and worked the polls as a Republican committee person in Etna. In the winter months, the two of them would attend at least seven or eight volunteer fire company banquets throughout Etna, Shaler, Sharpsburg, O'Hara and Hampton. At those banquets and at weddings, Dolores and Rick were always the best dancers on the floor, be it a waltz or a polka. As her children grew older, Dolores went back to work as a bank teller at Laurel Savings & Loan branches in Morningside and in Shaler. She was beloved by her customers for her friendship and guidance with their banking. Dolores was also very tough. She was robbed twice in her career as a bank teller at the point of a gun, once to her head and once to her chest. Each time she went back to work the next day. Dolores loved to read and all of her children followed her lead. She particularly loved murder mysteries and true crime books. Dolores loved vacations at the beach, particularly Kiawah Island, SC, where she and Rick would spend the winter. As her husband was away from home a good bit as a state representative, the two of them made a point to go out for dinner on Saturday nights at the Etna Elks or a variety of local restaurants. Dolores always enjoyed a glass of Old Grand Dad bourbon on the rocks to start. In later years, the two of them had their ritual of sharing a drink and cheese and crackers every afternoon. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, viewing and internment are private. All family and friends are invited to celebrate Dolores' life at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa of Avila Church on Thursday at 10:00 AM.
