QUINN MARY ELIZABETH McCABE Age 87 and 95/100ths years of age, died on November 24, 2015, in San Diego, California, of heart complications. For 66 years, she was the spouse of Robert S. Quinn, Jr., who preceded her in death April 2012. Born December 13, 1927, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Ida Grey Hoyt and the late John McCabe, and sister of Terry McCabe Herron. She graduated from Langley High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Salutatorian of the class of 1946. Mary Quinn retired from Publix Super Markets, Inc. in 1997, had previously been co-manager, with husband, Bob, of mobile home and recreational vehicle parks in Central Florida, worked at Tampa General Hospital, Bank of Maitland, Mellon Bank, Goodwill, sold Avon products, and had been secretary of Highlands Church of Christ. Her hobbies included reading, bridge, crossword puzzles, quilting, bowling, the Pittsburgh Pirates, Paul Newman, Tom Jones, and had once off-roaded in a runaway pick-up truck. She had been chapter president of the civil rights organization, Project Understanding, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After being brought up in the Catholic Church, following the Lutheran Church in adulthood, she found a spiritual home in the Church of Christ for the remainder of her years. Mary's dry wit was often as insightful as it was humorous and perfectly punctuated her husband, Bob's, more boisterous sense of humor to the delight of many. Mary is survived by two daughters, Meredith Dimperio (Peter, deceased) of San Diego, California, Kerry McElfresh (Greg) of Ferndale, Washington; three sons, Robert of Tampa, Christopher (Elizabeth), and Patrick, both of San Diego, California; her sister, Terry Herron of Cinnaminson, New Jersey; three grandsons, Ian McElfresh, Andrew McElfresh, and Cameron Quinn; many nieces and nephews; as well as two inconsolable cats, Newbie and Pearl. VITTONE MARY ANN (CAIRNS) DIED...

VITTONE MARY ANN (CAIRNS) Died Sunday, January 3, 2016, at the Donnell House, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 1, 1937, the daughter of John and Marie (McGregor) Cairns of Monongahela. She was a graduate of Monongahela High School class of 1955. Mary Ann volunteered as an organist for St. Francis of Assisi church in Finleyville and worked as volunteer aide at the Western Center. Her volunteer work led her to seek her college degree in special education from the California University of Pennsylvania. She was enormously proud to achieve her bachelor's degree, in her forties, with perfect grades while raising four young children. She worked until her retirement with the Intermediate Unit #1 helping young people with profound mental disabilities. Possessing incredible patience, she would work with a young person for an entire year to get them to use everyday items the rest of us use daily without a thought. She believed that in order for those with mental disabilities to have the best possible opportunity for a normal life, that it was important for her as an educator to do her best to prepare and educate. Mary Ann subsequently earned her Master's Degree in Special Education and Reading Certification. Mary Ann used every moment which she was given to help others and to satisfy her thirst for knowledge. She had many interests. She worked with the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University as an amateur archeologist which enabled her to explore further her lifelong interest in Southwestern Pennsylvanian Native Americans. This interest was acquired a child, when she roamed the freshly plowed fields of “the Mounds” near her Monongahela home collecting arrow heads and other artifacts. Applying her diligence to the family's genealogy, she learned much about the origins of the McGregor and Cairns families and of her Scottish roots. She published several papers on the genealogy of Washington County's earliest settlers. Mary Ann was always troubled by an inability to solve one part of her family's history and we who love her now are comforted in the knowledge that she now has learned the origin of the family's local McCormick family connection. Mary Ann was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Monongahela Historical Society, Venetia Heritage Society and Genealogical Society of Southwestern Pennsylvania. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family at her special summer home in Ripley, NY beside her beloved Lake Erie. Mary Ann was the rock upon which the foundation of her family rested. A loving mother, dedicated educator and accomplished musician, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Always practical, compassionate and considerate, she helped all who she could and never put her own welfare above that of others. In death Mary Ann is united again with her parents; a brother, John Cairns; a nephew, Michael Cairns; and her brother-in-law, Jon Russell. She is survived by her husband of 57 wonderful years, Eugene A. J. Vittone; her sister, Kathleen Cairns Russell; her sister-in-law, Rita Cairns; her children, Eugene (Jane Ann) Vittone, Lisa (William) Richard, Cara (Verle) Haines and Lawrence Vittone. She leaves to cherish her memory, her grandchildren and a great-grand child, Verle (Amanda) Haines, Joshua (Alyssa) Haines, Jesse Vittone, Torin Vittone, Michael Vittone, Hunter Vittone, Gabriel Vittone, Laura Vittone, Annabelle Haines; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her faithful companions, Louise and Lucky. Friends will be received in the MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, marshallmarra funeralhome.com from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral prayers will begin in the funeral home at 9 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2016, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Benedict the Abbot, McMurray at 10 a.m. with Fr. Robert Miller as Celebrant. At the family's request, interment in Monongahela Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to either Washington County Area Humane Society, 1527 Rt. 136, Eighty Four, PA 15330 or the Monongahela Area Library, 813 West Main St. Monongahela, PA 15063. PEACOCK DUNDAS GRANT PITTSBURG...

PEACOCK DUNDAS GRANT Pittsburgh native and Greenville business leader, Dundas Grant Peacock died on December 31, 2015, at the age of 77. The eldest child of Scottish immigrants, Grant was the first in his family to attend Ohio Wesleyan University where he was followed by his three siblings. After Ohio Wesleyan, Grant successfully earned his C.P.A. closely followed by his J.D. from Dickinson School of Law. Although an accountant and lawyer by training, Grant was first and foremost an entrepreneur. The consummate "dealmaker", Grant successfully completed over 75 different business transactions over the course of his career. The opportunities ranged from natural gas ventures in Western Pennsylvania to Weight Watchers North America and entrepreneurial endeavors in the Far East. Being a man of principal, Grant pursued his belief in "what's right" all the way to the United States Supreme Court where his landmark business case was won by his close friend David Freeman. During his thirty years as a business leader in Pittsburgh, Grant valued giving back. He served on the Executive Committee of The Pittsburgh Symphony's Board of Trustees as well as the Boards of Allegheny General Hospital, Shadyside Hospital, Fox Chapel Country Day School, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. When he transferred his energies to the Greenville area 20 years ago, Grant dove in with great passion. He mentored promising young leaders for the Liberty Fellowship and served as a Trustee of the St. Francis Hospital Foundation. His belief in the importance of the Arts led him to serve on the boards of both The Greenville Symphony and The Peace Center for the Performing Arts. Finally, a big believer in the power of ideas, Grant enjoyed his seven years of service as a Trustee of Wofford College. Retirement was not in Grant's vocabulary. At the time of his death, he was enjoying the challenges and opportunities provided by 98 East McBee, a real-estate venture that he envisioned and saw through to fruition in the heart of downtown Greenville. Grant measured his success by the positive impact that he made on others and the friends he collected along the way. He drew great joy from helping his sons and young, visionary entrepreneurs realize their dreams. His generous spirit was felt by many individuals from Pittsburgh to China and points in-between. Ultimately, Grant's greatest achievement was his "clan", the three sons he raised with Nancy, his wife of 48 years; Bradley D. Peacock (Tracy), Douglas G. Peacock, and Craig W. Peacock (Yun). He also took great joy in his grandchildren, Tasker, George, Aly, Sam, Ben, and Emery. Grant played the "game of life" with optimism, a sense of humor, a creative spirit, character and the comfort of knowing that, in thick or thin, he did it his way. There will be a memorial service for Grant Peacock at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016. The family looks forward to receiving visitors following the service. Those who wish to honor Grant may send donations either to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2310 Augusta St., Greenville, SC 29605 or The Peace Center Endowment Fund, 101 Broad St., Greenville, SC 29601.
