CARVLIN JAMES E. “MIKE” Age 87, of Dormont, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, February 25, 2018. Son of the late George and Katharine White Carvlin; beloved husband of Mary Ann Fischer Carvlin and the late Helen Lundberg Carvlin; devoted father of Michael Carvlin, Brian Carvlin (Patricia), Matthew Carvlin (Joyce), Jamie Carvlin (Stella), and the late Jeannie Weller (Charlie, surviving) and Paula Carvlin; brother of Deacon Thomas Carvlin (Evanne), Joyce Murphy (Daniel), and the late George Carvlin (the late Bert), John “Jake” Carvlin, and Judy Recktenwald; also survived by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Mike was a Marketing Manager for Koppers/RPM until his retirement in 1994. He was a longtime member of St. Bernard Church where he worked in the church office and served as sacristan at the 8 a.m. Mass on Sunday for 20 years. QUINN JOHN L. “JACK”, Jr. Of Monroeville, age 68, on Sunday, February 25, 2018. Beloved husband of Linda R. (Lowes) Quinn for 30 years; loving father of Ken Connelly of Penn Twp., Alisa (Nate) Connelly of Monroeville and the late Dan Connelly; treasured grandfather and 'Pap' of Michael, Emma and Jayden Connelly; dear brother of Jim (Patty) Quinn, Kathy Bateman, Patrick (Lynn) Quinn, Jan Appolonia, Joan (Larry) Lunsford, Dee Dee Quinn and the late Judy (surviving spouse, Mark) Rath. SEAMEN MARY C. Age 84, formerly of Brookline and Greentree, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 24, 2018, while under the care of Concordia of Cranberry. Born June 18, 1933, on the North Side of Pittsburgh, she was the loving daughter of the late Nunzio and Carmella (Nixey) Pilotta. Mary was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Bellevue. She was a lifelong dedicated member and National Counselor for the Italian Sons and Daughters of America. She held various positions within ISDA, most notably President of Napoleone Colaianni Lodge for many years. Mary worked as an executive secretary for various companies over her lifetime then later became a property assessor for Allegheny County until she retired. Above all, Mary adored her family and was a devoted wife and wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be dearly missed and so fondly remembered. She is survived by her loving daughter, Jan Warchola; and her husband, George, of Cranberry Twp.; three cherished grandchildren, Maria, Juliana, and Michael Warchola; two caring brothers, Vince Pilotta and Michael (Darlene) Pilotta of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert M. Seamen; her adored son, Jay M.; her dear brother, Louis Pilotta; and her dearest sister, Jo Scheibel. Beloved husband for 24 years of Jane (Gerneth) Phillips Garboden, M.D. and the late Harriett (Whitfield) Garboden who preceded him in death on November 4, 1988; loving father of James W. Garboden. He was the stepfather of Richard A. Phillips and his children, Kathryn (Michael) Bayliss and Paul M. Phillips; brother of the late Ruth Meyers, William and Clifton Garboden; uncle of William J. Richard proudly served our country during the Korean War in the United States Navy on the USS Coral Sea as a fire control tech. ZEILER MARIE SELMA January 27, 1924 to February 26, 2018. Marie was born to William N. Crawford, Jr. and Clara Bauer Crawford on January 27, 1924, on their family farm. She spent her youth in Pittsburgh, PA, and attended Baldwin High School. Later she studied at Slippery Rock State Teacher's College and eventually was certified as a physical therapist. When Dr. Donald L. Zeiler completed dental school they married and lived near Highland Falls, New York. Their first child, Donald, came a full month early and was born at West Point. Later came Gordon and Cara, both born in Pittsburgh. Marie and Don spent the greater part of their adult lives in Whitehall. Marie was active in sports and had played the drum when in High School. She supported her children in all of their endeavors and was a great encourager. She frequently used her physical therapy training to volunteer at the Baptist Homes and loved to be a comfort to those in need. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Donald L. Zeiler. She is survived by her older sister, Elizabeth Gregor; and her younger brother, William N. Crawford III (Jeannette). Surviving children include Donald E. Zeiler (Nona), Gordon L. Zeiler, and Cara L. Zeiler (Jim); grandchildren include Kelli Davidson (Jim), Mark Zeiler (Megan), Drew Zeiler (Christine), Brian Zeiler (Traci), Michael Zeiler, Annie Zeiler, and Alex Garrubba (Molly); great-grandchildren include Avery Davidson, Ethan Davidson, Harper Zeiler, Haddon Zeiler, and Ellie Kate Zeiler. Beloved husband of Rose Krivoshia for 60 years; loving father of Kirsten Krivoshia and Miles Krivoshia; cherished son of the late Eli and Lillian Krivoshia. Eli received his Summa Cum Laude recognition at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a member of the Glee Club. He was also a graduate of Harvard Law School, after which he served as partner at Thorpe, Reed, and Armstrong for many years. Eli went on to become Vice President and General Counsel for National Steel/ Intergroup. He was an exotic automobile and cycling enthusiast. Eli will be truly missed by all who knew him. KROPP JOAN F. “TOOTS” “JINX” Age 85, of McKeesport, died February 26, 2018, at The Grove at Irwin. Born August 17, 1932, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late John and Ann (Minyon) Sestile; and the wife of the late Jack L. Kropp. Joan was retired from the McKeesport Area School District, where she was the food service supervisor. She was also known as the "funnel cake lady" for events held at the McKeesport Concerts in the Park at the Renzie Park Band Shell. In her early years, she worked at Immel's Department Store in downtown McKeesport. She was a member of the former St. John's Lutheran Church. Joan enjoyed playing duck pin bowling and trips to the casino. She was also a member of several card clubs. Joan's greatest love was spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Wunderley of White Oak, and Joy (Wayne) Washowich of Elizabeth Twp.; grandchildren, Brooke (Daniel) Hrinda of White Oak, Jacqueline (John) Axon of Elizabeth, and Greg Wunderley of Squirrel Hill; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Elizabeth and Abigail Wunderley and Chloe Axon, Jack, Sydney and Isaac Hrinda; siblings, Dolores (James) Smith of Florida, Mary Joyce Catania of White Oak, and John (Beverly Dodds) Sestile of McKeesport; also nieces and nephews. RUTLEDGE MARK Of Ligonier, died on February 21, 2018, at Excela Latrobe Hospital after a protracted illness. His many friends repeatedly commented on the characteristics for which Mark was known: his outdoors prowess and knowledge, his gentlemanly manner and his sense of humor. Mark's parents, Beecher Heman McCann Rutledge and Ruth Alerta Crannell Rutledge, saw Mark's birth into the world in Erie, Pennsylvania where Beecher served as a pastor in the Episcopal Church. That career and devotion soon took the family to Owego, New York and then to Warren, Pennsylvania. Mark graduated from high school in Warren and went to study wildlife biology at Penn State, which lead to a two-year stint as a biologist with the Pennsylvania Game Commission. When the Korean Conflict arose, Mark joined the U.S. Army to fight in Korea. In 1953, the Army honorably discharged Lieutenant Rutledge. His discharge precepted Mark's entry into a career in finance culminating in his retirement in 2002. In early 1983, Mark married Elizabeth Louise Pierce, known as Lisa. In January 2018, the couple celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Chris Rutledge and David Rutledge, Mark's sons from an earlier marriage, survive their father as does his wife, Lisa. Mark and Lisa have lived in Ligonier, Pennsylvania since 1988 on a rural property they each learned to cherish. They shared that home with a succession of loving yellow Labrador Hunting Retrievers: Lily, Lotus, Lupin, and Daffodil. At her request, Mark made sure that Lisa learned to fly fish, hunt deer, shoot upland birds including turkeys, and train bird dogs. He also gave her all the appropriate implements, garments and other equipment to succeed in these sports. Mark played key rolls in various continent-wide conservation organizations including the presidency of the Ruffed Grouse Society "North America's foremost conservation organization dedicated to preserving our sporting traditions by creating healthy forest habitat for ruffed grouse, American woodcock and other wildlife." Both Ducks Unlimited and Trout Unlimited honored Mark with board memberships in these international and national organizations. For many decades Mark enjoyed his membership in the Rolling Rock Club of Ligonier and the Duquesne Club of Pittsburgh. For at least 63 years, Mark was a member of North Hills, Lodge # 716 F&AM. Friends wanting to honor Mark may make donations to the National Ruffed Grouse Society or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Disabled American Veterans. STREIT ELIZABETH “BETTY” J. (DUSEK) Age 79, of Ross Township, on Monday, February 26, 2018. Beloved wife of the late William J. Streit, Sr.; mother of William J. (Amelia) Streit, Jr. and Mary B.
