YANT ROBERT BOB LOUIS Age 82, of Aleppo Twp., PA, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018, in Heritage Valley Sewickley, PA. Born March 1, 1936, in Sewickley Heights, he was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Morrow Yant. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 60 years, Dana J. Blume Yant; sons, Barry R. (Karen) Yant and Kenneth (Rosa) Dale; daughters, LouAnn (Sean) Scott, Carolyn (John Trapp) Pegher and Dawn L. (JR) Cannister; also survived by a brother, James Yant; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by five siblings. Bob was the former public works director for Sewickley Boro. He was a member of the Cochran Hose Co., Avalon Lodge #657, F&AM, Coraopolis Moose, VFW, American Legion, Ambridge Eagles, Coraopolis Elks and the N.R.A. Friends will be received in the RICHARD D. FREDETTE BARBARA WAGNER Died peacefully on March 6, 2018, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was an Emeritus Associate Professor of Elementary Education at the University of Pittsburgh, where she influenced generations of arts educators. Among other professional recognitions, she received the Pennsylvania Art Education Association Outstanding Art Educator award. Barbara's father, Lawrence A. Wagner, was a pioneering pilot for Pan American Airlines in South America, where she was born in Lima, Peru on December 5, 1933. After her father's death in a plane crash in 1934, Barbara and her mother, Anne, returned to the United States. Barbara's artistic talent was nurtured by her devoted mother and eventually led to her attending Chatham University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1954 she married John W. Fredette, Jr. After the death of her husband in 1957, Barbara balanced being a mother of two young sons with pursuing her graduate education. She did so with the active support of her extended family and especially, her mother and her father-in-law, John W. Fredette, MD. Barbara obtained her doctorate in 1969. Barbara was an exceptionally talented photographer and later in life created a greeting card business using her extensive library of flower pictures. She was an avid traveler and was particularly proud of achieving her goal of snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef. Barbara loved being at the ocean, especially her time spent in the 1960s and 70s with her sons and their cousins on Martha's Vineyard and in later years with her sons and grandchildren on Topsail Island. In retirement Barbara enjoyed water aerobics at the P.A.A. and her book club. She was also an active member of the Christ Child Society, which provides winter coats for children in need. Barbara was predeceased by her grandson, Benjamin Lawrence Fredette and her daughter-in-law, Aimee Chesler Fredette. She is survived by her sons, John W. Fredette, III (partner William Douglas) and Lawrence F. Fredette; her beloved grandchildren, Alyssa I. Fredette and Eric W. Fredette; nieces, Sheila Sennott and Eilisa S. McDonnell; and nephew, Sean F. Sennott; along with many cousins. Friends will be received at JOHN A. UBINGER JOHN R. Age 87, died peacefully at his home in Bethel Park on March 6, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. Despite this difficult journey, he maintained extraordinary grace and dignity and an unwavering faithfulness in God. John was born in Pittsburgh to Robert and Eleanor Ubinger on June 14, 1930, which is Flag Day. The Bethel Park community came to expect to see the hundreds of flags that decorated his yard for that day and every patriotic holiday. After graduating from St. Joseph's High School in Mt. Oliver, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served three years at Castle Air Force Base, CA during the Korean War. During the mandatory third year, his fiancée, Shirley Hesse, flew out so they could be married on the base in 1951. Upon returning to Pittsburgh with their first child, John started working in the HVAC business. John became the owner of Admiral Heating and Cooling Co. in 1959. He served on many trade association boards. He was a national director of Air Conditioning Contractors of America. He was a proud veteran who loved his country unconditionally. An avid fan of the Steelers and Pitt Basketball. John was a passionate volunteer, always using his expertise to help the less fortunate. He was a man of great faith, a longtime, active member of the Knights of Columbus, and a Eucharistic minister and lector for St. Wendelin Catholic Church (Baldwin). He became a member of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church in Whitehall in 2000 and volunteered in the school cafeteria and sang with the Resurrection Choir. He found great joy in his relationships with the students there. He also volunteered for Rebuilding Together, Action Housing and IMPACT. John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Hesse); brother, Robert (MaryAnn); and sister, Lenore Hays; his children, Kristine Radack (the late Albert), Stephen Ubinger (Karen), Beth Nolle (Richard), Karen Bastianelli (Larry), Karl Ubinger, John Ubinger, Jr., Ellen Svitko (Dan), and Jennifer Panian (Geoff); also 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. John's family is eternally grateful to the VA Health System, the VA Hospice and Comfort Keepers for their compassionate care during his last weeks. Friends will be received at the JOHN F. John was born January 20, 1931, in Rilton, PA, the son of Frank J. and Sarah Elizabeth Turnbull Sprentz. John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Anna Marie Farina Sprentz. His faith was inspiring and he spread love and joy to everyone he met. CHANDLER HELEN VAN BLARCOM Rose to greet her Lord and Savior, on March 6, 2018. Helen Chandler, who most recently resided in McCandless, PA, was born in Paterson, New Jersey on June 22, 1934. She met the love of her life, Leland Chandler, while attending Wheelock College in Boston and they were married in 1955. She was a devoted mother to their five children. As Lee, an executive with U S Steel, took numerous assignments across the country, Helen coordinated the many moves seamlessly, quickly integrating the family into the local church, schools and community. Helen's nurturing nature provided guidance, stability and a loving home wherever they landed. The primary thread in the fabric of her life was her belief in Jesus Christ and she lived her entire life in faithful service. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Lee, and her much loved parents, Albert Ackerman Van Blarcom and Helen Kenter Van Blarcom. She is survived by all of her children and their spouses: Lisa and James Lorish of Pittsburgh, Stephanie and Peter Keahon of Dallas, Texas, Leland and Kathy Chandler of Zelienople, Kevin Chandler and partner Jerry Birdwell of Sutter Creek, California, and David and Valerie Chandler of Pittsburgh. Her grandchildren, who will miss her tremendously, are: Christopher Lorish, Michael Lorish, Daniel Chandler, Abigail Chandler Bucci (and husband, DJ) and Katherine Chandler, all of Pittsburgh, PA; Allison Chandler Templeton (and husband, Ron) of Newark, DE; and Leland John Chandler of Columbus, OH. Helen has three wonderful great- grandchildren: Will and Amelia Bucci and R. Silas Templeton. A celebration of life will be held at Ingomar Church (1501 West Ingomar Road, Pittsburgh) at 11 a.m. on Friday, the 9th of March. EVANS MARJORIE A. (McCABE) Age 82, of Penn Hills, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Wife of the late Lester E. Evans; daughter of the late John and Golden McCabe; sister of the late Lawrence B. McCabe (former McCabe Funeral Home, Penn Hills); aunt of the late Christine (McCabe) Franklin. Marjorie is survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation or services. Private burial will be in the New St. Joseph Cemetery, N. Versailles. FERGUSON ROBERT BOB Age 87, formerly of Wilkins Twp. passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth A. "Liz" (Beveridge) Ferguson; loving father of Cindy (Ed) Lang, Robin (John) Hanna, and the late Saundra Gelormini; grandfather of Mike (Angela) Marcinizyn, Nick Pliakas, John (Emily) Hanna, Danielle (Roy) Grooms, Alex Holman, Bob (Lauren) Holman, and the late Dana Pliakas, and Christopher Hanna; brother of Ramsay, Theodore, Kenneth, Janet Coates and the late Nelson, John, Ralph, Willie, Clark and Connie Gindlesperger. Bob was a Korean War Army Veteran and retired from Westinghouse Research after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Wilkins Twp. VFW, enjoyed gardening, and loved hunting, fishing, and golf with his brothers. Bob was a family man that enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A special thanks to the caregivers and nurses at Arden Courts in Monroeville for their compassionate care.
