McLAUGHLIN AUDREY (SMITH) Passed away from complications due to ALS on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at the age of 66. Audrey grew up in Mt. Washington and lived in Whitehall, Ross and most recently Shaler Twp. A former elementary school teacher and preschool director at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Audrey was a published writer and voracious reader. Her quick wit and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who met her. She loved life, her family, traveling and had a deep faith in the Lord. Audrey was the daughter of the late James and Nellie Smith and the mother of the late Jimmy Scherrer. She is survived by her husband, Tom McLaughlin of Shaler; her son, Bob Scherrer and his wife, Jen of Wexford; granddaughter, Olivia Scherrer; grandson, Max Scherrer; sisters, Gina (Bill) Howells, Janet (Joe) Phillips and Carol Smith (Jack) Terrell. Extended members of the McLaughlin family, Tom (Sheila) McLaughlin, Patti (Bill) Scheller and Barbara (Dave) Meussner; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. WILLOUR DAVID R. Of Badsey, England, age 76, was born in Wooster, OH on February 28, 1939, and died on February 27, 2016, at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, England. He is survived by his sister, Myra Novak; by Judy Willour, his wife of 40 years; by his two sons, Geoffrey and Douglas; and by his grandchildren, Isaac Willour (son of Geoffrey and his wife, Sharon), and Ryan and Colin Willour (sons of Douglas Willour). He received his BA degree from the College of Wooster and his MBA degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In his professional life, he was a seasoned and successful financial executive, holding high positions in a number of banking institutions, including Mellon Bank, Bank of New England, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Advest Bank. He and his family resided in Fox Chapel during the 1970s and part of the 1980s. A lifelong anglophile, he spent his later retirement years as a permanent resident in England. A funeral service was held in his honor on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at the St. Leonard's Parish Church in Bretforton, England, where his ashes were interred in the churchyard. Catherine retired after many years as a sales associate with Kaufmann's and Macy's Department stores and was extensively involved with baking for Meals on Wheels where she specialized in diabetic desserts. She enjoyed working in her garden and making crafts for her son's special education students. McCARTHY MARIE ESTELLE (HARMON) Age 98, a longtime Thornburg resident, formerly of Crafton, peacefully at her home on Monday, April 4, 2016. Wife of the late Dr. William C. McCarthy; beloved mother of Maureen Lamberti, Jeaneen (John) Hall, Noreen, Brian, Brendan, and Martin McCarthy, Pegeen (James) Ward, Sean (Michelle) McCarthy and the late Kathleen (surviving husband Mark) Garrett, Eileen (Jack) Whiteford, Colleen (surviving husband Anthony) Civello and Kevin (surviving wife Lori) McCarthy; loving grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; sister of the late Jerome Harmon. Marie attended St. Philip Grade School, and graduated from Crafton High School in 1937. She studied ballet and dance, performing locally until her marriage in 1942. In 1949, Marie and family moved to her beloved Thornburg, where she made lifelong friendships and many happy memories. Marie's proudest accomplishment was being the devoted mother to her 12 children. Her love for her Irish roots served as an inspiration for the creative names given to them. Marie was a devout Catholic, and read avidly about her faith. She was an active member of St. Philip Church throughout her life where she served the church in many ways, teaching CCD, participating in prayer group meetings, and attending daily Mass. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and neighbors, both young and old. All who knew her, admired her youthful beauty and trademark blonde hair, her natural charm, and her gentile smile.
