CHRISTOPHER Dr. GLORIA CAROL Was born in New Kensington, PA on March 2, 1933, to Nick and Angela (Pascuzzi) Christopher. She passed away in Branson, MO on July 11, 2015, after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her cousins, Dr. and Mrs. William and Marilyn Bonatti, Christopher and Kathy Bonatti; their sons, Andrew, Thomas and Matthew, William and Donna Bonatti; cousin, Nanci Sackett; and countless former students, friends and colleagues. She attended Mount Mercy Academy, graduated from Seton Hill College with a B.M.E., received her M.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University and her D.M.A. in Vocal Performance from WVU. After public school teaching, she moved to a college position at James Madison University to teach voice and choral techniques. She was sought after as a guest conductor, master teacher, and adjudicator. In 1974, Dr. C. moved to Monroe, LA to teach at ULM, where she taught voice, music methods, the University Chorus, the Women's Chorus and formed the Elec-Tones. She was involved in the Catholic campus ministry, served on the board, was a Eucharistic minister and lector. In Monroe, her greatest accomplishment was to begin a youth agency, Our House, Inc., a shelter for homeless, neglected and victimized youth. Dr. C. instigated the passage of House Bill 1178, Safe Harbor into law, which provides 72 hours of sanctuary for non-offending runaways at licensed youth facilities. After 20 years in the position as Exec. Dir. of Our House, she retired again and moved to Branson, MO, and became involved with Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church as a lector and choir member. Dr. C. was often invited to be a guest teacher at the College of the Ozarks where vocal, choral and music appreciation students were under her inspiring tutelage. She often remarked that she had led a full life and was blessed with a wonderful family, many friends, and interesting travel experiences to witness God's beauty in nature, architecture, and music. Whether it was teaching and letting youth experience music or helping them to solve their personal problems, Dr. Christopher's mission was to increase young people's awareness of a value system, of the beauty of God's world through music and the arts, and to understand their own importance and value.
