MORROW ROBERT E. Age 81 of West View, on Monday August 20, 2018. Beloved husband for 59 years of Norma (Hunter) Morrow; father of Kimberly (Thomas) Dering and Robert E. (Sonja) Morrow, Jr.; grandfather of Christopher (Rachel), Shannon, Kara Dering, Casey and John Morrow; brother of John W. (Jace) Morrow, Sr., the late Hazel Karwoski and Velois Lemmon. Robert was born and raised in Kittanning, PA, a graduate of Kittanning High School, and Cambria-Rowe Business College of Johnstown, PA.  He served in the US Navy as an Aviation Ordnanceman where he was a Flight Crewman in a Blimp training squadron in Brunswick, GA and also served as a Flight Crewman in Patrol Squadron VP-4 in Okinawa.  He worked for United States Steel Corporation, USS Chemical and Aristech Chemical Corporation for over 35 years until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the North Hills Community Baptist Church. Robert enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader but mostly loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, brother and sister. BELLANTE JOSEPH F. Of North Braddock, formerly of East Pittsburgh and the East End of Pittsburgh, age 77, on Monday, August 20, 2018. Beloved husband of Sally (Sullivan) Bellante for 43 years; loving and caring father of Gina Bellante of Greenfield, Joseph Bellante, Jr. of Monroeville, Vinnie (Karen) Bellante of West Mifflin, Fran (Lori) Bellante of TN, Marla Cowell of OH, James (Angel) Bellante of Monroeville, Dawn Bellante of East Pittsburgh, and the late infant, Andrew; Joe is also survived by 26 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother of James Bellante, Fran Bellante, Mary Ann Duch, Bee Bee Lilja and the late Rosemarie Amodeo. Joe was the subject and main character of the novel, Left for Dead, a true story of Joe's journey from organized crime to the ministry. A large focus of his ministry was to the youth. Outreaching with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, he ministered to Peabody High School for many years and coached football and wrestling as well. He also ministered to Arsenal Middle School, and, for many years, provided prison ministry. Through his years as a minister, Joe ministered with Young Life, Urban Partners, and finally Joe Bellante Ministries, which served under the auspices of the Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation. Joe continued his ministry into retirement with anyone he came to meet, even in the hospital during his dying days. Besides the ministry, Joe had a deep passion for football. He played as a youth for the Morningside Bulldogs and was a member of the 1957 Championship Wilkinsburg High School Football Team. After high school, he played minor pro football, mostly for the East End Chiefs. For his excellence as a player, in 2005, Joe was inducted into the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame. In 2008, Joe was inducted into the Minor Pro Football Hall of Fame. Friends are welcome on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. NESKY SHEILA CATHERINE (HERWARD) On Tuesday, August 21, 2018, born in Greenfield and long-time resident of Baldwin Borough, passed away at the age of 61. She is survived by her loving husband of 26-years Robert Nesky Jr. She was the proud mother of Brendan Robert James Nesky; step-mother of Bonnie Vargo and Brian Nesky, and “nanny” of Reilyn and Reese Nesky; she was the daughter of the late Mary and James Herward of Greenfield; daughter-in-law of Rose Nesky and the late Robert Nesky Sr. of Munhall; she is the beloved sister of Mary Herward Bartol, James Herward Jr, Bernadette Herward Davida; and step-sister to Jane and Ed Fetcho. Sheila graduated from the Shady Side School of Nursing, served as a nurse in the U.S. Army Reserve before working at Allegheny General Hospital for 27 years and Jefferson Regional Hospital for eight years. She was an active member of the Ladies AOH, Pittsburgh Irish Netowrk, and St. Rosalia's parishioner. Devoted aunt to Bridget Bartol, Jonathan Herward, Gabriella Davida, Michaela Davida, Olivia Davida, James Hughes, and Ashley Fetcho. WILLIS GEORGIE Age 74, of Natrona Heights, PA, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at her home with her family by her side. She was born December 28, 1943 in Kittanning, PA, the daughter of Shields and Kathryn (West) McCullough. Georgie lived in Kittanning throughout her youth and graduated from Kittanning High School in 1961. She attended Grace Brethren Church in West Kittanning. Georgie was known for her fabulous cooking and she enjoyed baking cookies for friends and family. She was also gifted at sewing and knitting. Everyone who knew Georgie will always remember her generous heart and how she would do anything for anyone. She loved to laugh and had a special place in her heart for animals. Georgie always had to have pets and was especially fond of her dog, Mandy, and cats, Bandit and Peaches. She will be remembered with love by her husband, Bill Willis, whom she married January 16, 1971; son, Steven P. Willis and wife, Holly, of Burlington, NC; daughters, Julie R. Shreve and husband, Curtis, of Cincinnati, OH, and Susan J. McIntyre and husband, John, of Natrona; grandchildren, Kyle Willis, Caleb Shreve, Josh Durst, Brandi Bianco, and Noelle Otto; five great-grandchildren; brother, William S. McCullough and wife, Ruth, of Valparaiso, IN; and sister, Terri L. TOTH IRENE A. Of North Versailles, age 87, on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. Irene was preceded in death by her sister, Ethel Toth and her brothers, John “Whitey” Toth and Joseph (late Helen) Toth. Aunt of Melanie, Alan, Paul, Joe, Maria and Lisa Toth. She is survived by her ‘adopted brother', Vinnie Zawasky of MD and her dear friend, Dolores Yoder. Also surviving are Dolores' daughter, Sindy Yoder and her children, Sophia, Noah and Bethany, and, also, her good friend, Pam Kavalukas. Irene was a retired secretary from Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh. She was an outstanding bowler and participated in the New Great Valley Majors League for many years. She also bowled in a travelling league and in tournaments all over the United States. Irene was also known for her colorful wardrobe and was always adorned with jewelry and decorative symbolic pins, particularly angel and butterfly pins. Irene also had a passion for visiting casinos and bingo playing. Friends are welcome on Sunday from 1-6 p.m. at PATRICK T. KLOSS HELEN B. (BABINECZ) A long time resident of Vernon Ave., in Pittsburgh, PA.,  passed away peacefully on August 8, 2018 at Inspired Living Assisted Healthcare facility in Lakewood Ranch, FL. Helen was born on February 4, 1923 to the late Anna and Anthony Babinecz. She grew up in Oakland and graduated from Schenely High School. She met and married Carl W. Kloss of Brentwood while they both were working at McGee hospital. They celebrated more than fifty years of marriage before his passing in 1993. Helen was the last survivor of six siblings; Andrew Babinecz, George Babinecz, John Babinecz, Mary Langol and Margaret Takach. She is survived by her daughter,  Barbara (John) Camino of Lakewood Ranch, FL and her son, Paul (Lou Ann) Kloss of Summerville, SC. She was blessed with four wonderful grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Helen worked for Bell Telephone and AT&T for more than forty years. She spent her latter retirement years with her son in State College, PA and more recently with her daughter in Lakewood Ranch, FL. Helen loved good food, gardening, playing cards and working Bingo. She enjoyed going to church and especially watching and rooting for her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. She had a great smile and a good sense of humor. She enjoyed people and was always ready and willing to provide a helping hand. She will be missed by all who knew her. BIRES EDWARD Age 94, of Bridgeville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. He was born in Rankin, PA on May 16, 1924 the son of the late Andrew Sr. and Anna (Tinnick) Bires. Beloved husband and best friend for over 66 years of Geraldine (Pavlik) Bires; devoted father of Dr. Jill Bires, Atlanta, Janet Boslett (Bill), Chicago, Beth Bires-Henry (Stephen), Moon Twp.; Ed will be missed by his brother-in-law Ronald Pavlik (Jeanne); many nieces, nephews and granddogs. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by an infant daughter, three brothers and a sister. Ed was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army. He continued the love of his country by starting a career with the US Postal Service in 1946 where he worked for 35 years and retired as the Postmaster in Braddock, PA in 1981. With his passion for education, in addition to working full time, Ed received his bachelor's degree from Point Park University. His retirement years were spent serving as the director of the Salvation Army Golden Age Club in Braddock, PA where he enjoyed planning trips and programs. Armed with wit and a joke of the day, Ed was always able to make you laugh and smile. His kindness and compassion were shared with many. A special thanks to Vanadium Woods Village for providing Ed and Gerri with “a place to call home” for the past ten years. GUSEW ALFRED "AL" Age 93, of Bellevue, peacefully went to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, August 22, 2018.  Beloved husband of 69 years to Barbara Ann (Kowacs) Gusew; loving father of Sandra L. (James) Hacke, Alfred “Jack” (Barbara J.) Gusew and the late Peter Gusew; grandfather of Leah (Brian) Schram, Emily, Alison and Jonathan Gusew; great-grandfather of Carter and Lydia Schram; also survived by many nieces and nephews;  Al was preceded in death by three sisters. Al was a 73 year member of the Carpenters Union Local 211. He was a member of Bellevue United Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, trustee and elder and was a member of the I.O.O.F. Clover Lodge # 348 in Ambridge. BORTMESS EDWARD C. Age 94, of Zelienople, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 while under the care of Passavant Retirement Community. Born October 27, 1923 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Edward F. Bortmess and Alvirda Plaxton Bortmess. Ed proudly served our country as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force during World War II. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved gardening. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 72 years, Irene Kress Bortmess, whom he married on October 20, 1945; his daughters, Donna Lamneck and her husband, Harry, and Nancy Dunn and her late husband, Jeffrey Wilson Dunn; his grandchildren, Ryan McCarthy and his wife, Pam; his two great-grandchildren, Ryan Jeffrey and Riley Rose; his brother, Roy Bortmess and his wife, Sally, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and son-in-law, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Bortmess, and his sister, Audrey Kosie. THORNTON DARLENE LYNNE Sunday, August 19th, at the age of 62, Darlene transited from this earthy life to Life Eternal. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Darlene attended and graduated from the Pittsburgh Public Schools. She served in the United States Army and later graduated with a B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh. Darlene accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was baptized at Faith United Presbyterian Church (Northside). Darlene has been a faithful member of Allegheny Center Alliance Church (Northside) on the Northside for over 30 years. Darlene is survived by her husband, Robert Maloney; stepmother, Marion Wright; godmother, Margie L. Thomas;  sons, Darnell L. Jackson (Tiffany), Jamel L. Thornton, Sr. (Stevie), Emmett O. Thornton (Miranda) and several stepchildren; sisters, Jonelle Watson, Yolanda Johnson, Angeline Gandy, Antoinette Wright, Karen Wright, and Andrea Wright; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several aunts and uncles; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  HomeGoing Service will be Friday, August 24th at 12:00 noon with Viewing from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.  Allegheny Center Alliance Church, Union Place (red building), 250 East Ohio St., (Northside), Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
